Captain & Lady Captain’s Charities 2026

This year, the Captain and Lady Captain have chosen charities that focus on awareness,
education and early support for men’s and women’s health.

Lady Captain’s Charity – The Eve Appeal

“This year, I have chosen The Eve Appeal as my Lady Captain’s Charity, as it closely complements the Captain’s Charity by focusing on awareness and education around women’s health.

The Eve Appeal is a small but impactful charity dedicated to raising awareness of gynaecological cancers. They provide vital education, help and advice, including access to nurse-led telephone information lines for those seeking guidance and support.

I have been in contact with the charity to explore opportunities for involvement at Club events, including the Christmas Concert and dates throughout the year. The Club will continue to support The Eve Appeal through scheduled golf days in July and August, as well as the Summer Concert in June.

By supporting The Eve Appeal, we hope to help raise awareness, encourage education, and highlight the importance of understanding and talking openly about gynaecological health.”

Captain’s Charity – CHAPS Men’s Health Charity

“Men’s health has historically been pushed into the background because, too often, men don’t talk about it. Following my own diagnosis of prostate cancer at an early stage, and with growing awareness of the condition across national media, I felt it was important to take action and approached CHAPS to explore working with Upminster Golf Club.

CHAPS provide a professional screening service that may not otherwise be easily accessible through the NHS. Alongside this, we will be hosting an educational evening with CHAPS’ Clinical Director, Professor Christopher Booth, to help inform our members about men’s health and the importance of early detection. Many men experience no symptoms at all, which makes awareness and education even more vital.

CHAPS will also offer clear guidance and appropriate signposting to any member who requests further support following screening. I am proud to support CHAPS as my Captain’s Charity and look forward to a successful year working together, with the aim of increasing awareness and encouraging open conversations around prostate cancer and men’s health within our Club.”

– Tony Byrne, Club Captain

Fundraising & Donations

Donations in support of our Captain’s Charities are very welcome via our GoFundMe page, which helps us raise funds for both chosen charities throughout the year. In addition, CHAPS pin badges are available to purchase behind the bar, with all proceeds going directly to the charity.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising so far, following our recent Music Quiz night, we raised £920 for the Captain’s Charities, which will be split equally between CHAPS and The Eve Appeal. We are also pleased to share that our local yokel meeting held at the Club today raised a further £360 through sales of the CHAPS pin badges.

Donate here and support our chosen charities!
